“Snow White and the Huntsman” Movie Review

(Moody, Magical, Mystical)

Charlize Theron (as Ravenna) is one sexy, nasty, evil, queen bitch.  Gifted with magical powers by her mother, Ravenna dupes her way into the Castle, marries the King, murders him, and becomes Queen.   Her evil magical ways make living for everyone else misery….even “nature” dies.  She stays young by sucking the youth out of young girls (in a very Dementor like way).  “Mirror mirror on the wall, who is the fairest of them all?”

Only one person can stop her, Snow White (Kristen Stewart), who is pure of heart (and eventually becomes the fairest of them all, which pisses Ravenna off).  But Ravenna keeps Snow White jailed in the North Tower…until one day, when Snow White escapes into the Dark Forest, where no one can follow her safely.  No one that is, except Thor….errrr, Chris Hemsworth (as The Huntsman).

With a promise to bring his dead wife back, Ravenna sends The Huntsman into the Dark Forest to grab Sow Whites heart and bring it back to her.  When this is complete, Ravenna can live forever without sucking the youth out of pretty young girls.

“Snow White and the Huntsman” takes it’s time telling the story.  It is a slower, deliberately paced, movie in no rush to get to the end.  Interspersed (cartoon-ish like) action keeps you on your toes, and occasionally on the edge of your seat, or in my case fidgeting.

No cussing, no -f-words, if your kids are ok with the violence (again it is not realistic) it should be an ok, fun, scary, fantasy movie for the entire family. (NOTE it is PG-13).   The dwarfs are awesome…see if you can recognize some of them, who happen to be as famous, or more so, than the top billed cast members.

Watch for some interesting visuals similar to Harry Potter.  A white stag, Dementor like behavior, a troll, etc.  I wonder if this was intentional?

Go to IMDb for more information.  We watched this movie at the Tracy, CA CineMark where our poster is STILL UP!  Look UP as you leave.  :-)
