Pier 39 Christmas Tree

The day after Thanksgiving it is our tradition to head out to the big city, San Francisco, for a day of sightseeing.

Yeah….even though we live so close, sightseeing in SF is an amazing experience.  We visited the Hyde Street Pier for the first time!  Next time, I will pay to get on the boats.

Signs of the recession were around us though.  The Cannery building which a few short years ago housed an amazing array of small, interesting, upscale shops is practically a ghost house now.  Many shops near Ghirardelli were also empty…

But there are still crowds, still the energy of San Francisco, and the main areas seem to be ok…let’s hope the small Cannery shops come back with a vengeance next year.
