Movie Review: “Avatar”

Nearly 5 years after taking off for Pandora, the latest crew is just coming out of stasis as they arrive at this distant world.

Pandora is inhabited by a people who are very tall and blue and the land has untold riches to be mined.

The Nav’i are at peace with themselves and with nature.

Earth-borne scientists, lead by Dr. Grace Augustine (Sigourney Weaver), are on Pandora to study the planet and the Nav’i while the United States military is on the planet to mine the minerals, provide protection against a myriad of “enemies”, and……..

…….to move the native Nav’i people off of the biggest mineral deposit so it can be mined.

Ex-Marine, Jake Sully (Sam Worthington), has taken his twin brothers place on Pandara as an avatar “driver”. Jake’s twin was a scientist in the middle of a long training period when he died. The avatar was tuned to the brothers DNA and since it is still growing, and Jake’s DNA is the same as his brothers, the Marine is recruited to take over.

Arriving on Pandora, Jake is also recruited by the Military leader, Colonel Miles Quaritch (Stephen Lang), to blend in with Nav’i society get to know them and get them to trust him, then……convince them to move…..or provide the intel needed to destroy them.

Then a funny thing happened: Kind hearted Jake (and his avatar) fall in love with Neytiri (Zoe Saldana)…….and……

Oh, to see what happens you can watch the movie in glorious 4k UHD on Disney+. 🙂

“Avatar” is a classic, epic, movie that we watched (I watched it twice when we got the DVD) over 14 years ago, and needed to refresh our memories to watch Avatar 2! Based on the screaming Lori was directing at the despicible Miles Quaritch…..it was a great movie! 🙂

In fact, it is every bit as good as it was back in 2009 (in the theater) but even better now since we now have a 65 inch 4k UHD TV and can stay home to watch it (and scream at Miles if we have to…..).
