Movie Review: “The Beanie Bubble”

As you can tell from the picture…..Lori was “invested” in the Beanie Baby “bubble”.

Getting up early in the morning and standing in line for hours just to buy the latest Beanie Baby…..not for investment, but, for Kristen (who was a baby then), and, it was fun. 🙂

But I digress…..back to the movie.

Warning: Nothing but spoilers from this point on!

Ty Warner (Zach Galifianakis) was / is an asshole.

He stole the ideas of everyone around him and took sole credit for building an under-stuffed toy craze like no one has ever seen.

There were three women, and a couple of kids, who were intrumental, CRUCIAL, to the success of the Ty Beanie Baby.

None of them got the credit they deserved.

Robbie (Elizabeth Banks) started the first company with Ty making large under-stuffed cats. They did well and both put their heart and souls into the company…..then Ty cut her out of the business.

And…..Robbie left.

Maya (Geraldine Viswanathan) was a kid fresh out of school (and not wanting to be a Doctor) when she joined the company and had a zillion ideas ranging from limited runs of the under-stuffed toys, a web site (before there were company web sites), using EBay (what is that?) as a viral free marketing tactic, and so much more…..that Ty stole and claimed as his own ideas.

Maya eventually got smart…..and left.

Sheila (Sarah Snook) and her two daughters helped design Beanie Babies and in fact, Ava (Madison Johnson), came up with the idea for a small beanie baby that would fit in a kids backpack.

Ty stole all their ideas until…….they left.

You pretty much know the rest……Lori sure does. 🙂

“The Beanie Bubble” is an interesting movie about the Beanie Baby craze, the asshole who ran the company, and the people around him who got shit on.

But….in the end…..each of the women found success on their own! Take that Ty!
