Movie Review: “Nandor Fodor and the Talking Mongoose”

Nandor Fodor (Simon Pegg) was a paranormal psychologist back in the 1930’s.

He was quite famous and, although he was a true believer at the start of his career, he became a skeptic later on.

This movie is based in his skeptic years, or is the start of his skeptic years.

Eventually, Nandor believed that people are afraid of death and want to hold on to those who passed (seance, ghosts, etc) to hold on to the hope that this life does not just end in blackness and nothing.

At one point he states that people write so that their memory will live on, if people can’t do that what do they do?

They conjure up a talking mongoose!

Anne (Minnie Driver) is his assistant, and although Nandor has taught her to believe in only what can be verified scientifically…..she wants to believe.

Nandor, Anne

A letter from Dr. Harry Price (Christopher Lloyd) about his visit to meet the talking mongoose, Gef (voiced by Neil Gaiman !!!), intrigues Nandor enough that he and Anne plan a visit of their own on the Isle of Man.

What happens on that visit is…….

Oh, to see what happens you can stream this movie on Amazon Prime. 🙂

“Nandor Fodor and the Talking Mongoose” is a weird quirky indie with a great cast. Overall it is about…death…or rather denying deaths total nothingness (no heaven and no hell…just nothing) by conjuring ghosts, poltergeists, or, hmmmm, a talking mongoose to make people feel better about an afterlife.

Lori picked this movie then fell asleep halfway thru it! 🙂 But I kinda liked it.

I certainly like Simon Pegg, Minnie Driver, and of course, Christopher Lloyd who bring this quirky, but true, movie to life, or death ;-).
