
In early 1969, the popularity and funding of the NASA / Apollo space program was at an all time low even though the Apollo 11 mission was planning to land two men on the moon (Neil Armstrong, Buzz Aldrin) while the third (Michael Collins) would circle the moon.
JFK’s dream becoming reality, and no one cared.
In an attempt to boost awareness and funding of the upcoming Apollo 11 mission, NASA hired the marketing whiz-team of Kelly Jones (Scarlett Johansson) and her assistant Ruby Martin (Anna Garcia) to turn things around.
NASA assigned Cole Davis (Channing Tatum) as Kelly’s main interface to the program.

In her first controversial move….since most of the engineers on the Apollo project are like me…..Kelly hired actors to make believe they are engineers to meet with the press and public.
Then President Nixon’s guy on the program, Moe Berkus (Woody Harrelson), takes deception one step further and orders Kelly to film a fake landing just in case the real one goes south.

“Fly Me to the Moon” is a fun nostalgia trip for us older folks (and in particular for me since I watched the landing on TV in college, and, then after graduation and a stint in the Navy…..I worked at Grumman Aerospace where my office was in the same hanger where they built the Lunar Module (see the featured image above).
The moon landing conspiracy theorists will enjoy the movie…..until….the cat arrives. 🙂
