“The Sorcerer’s Apprentice” Movie Review
(Cage is super cool, lots of action, great effects)
OK, call me a dork, but I LOVED this movie when we saw it in the movies, and then I loved it even more watching it at home in all it’s blu-ray beauty.
Nick Cage (as Balthazar Blake) was one of Merlin’s three trusted apprentices. As the movie states, maybe Merlin should have trusted only two, because that last one killed him. As he lay dying, Merlin gave Balthazar a dragon ring and instructions to find the Prime Merlinian.
1000 years later he found him (Jay Baruchel as physics nerd Dave Stutler).
Rent it! Buy it! I particularly liked the real Sorcerer’s Apprentice thing when all the brooms were cleaning Stutler’s lab). Very funny.
Oh yeah…I loved the homages to “Raiders of the Lost Arc”, “Star Wars”, and I think (more subtle or just my imagination), “Harry Potter”.
