“Contagion” Movie Review

(Frightening, Realistic, Scary as Hell)

In 1975, Jaws, scared the shit out of everyone.

Growing up on Long Island (Bay Shore), and living there in the aftermath of Jaws, I experienced first hand the fear people had for the water.  I even had to cancel a date because the girl did not want to be on a boat…we ended up somewhere else a lot more fun. 😉

Anyway….

“Contagion”, in 2011, will scare the crap out you.  You will leave the theater afraid to go to the bathroom and touch the door handle, the sink, the flusher thingy, then books at Barnes & Noble, the chairs, the table……YIKES!  And don’t touch your face, which you do 3,000 to 5,000 times a day (go ahead try NOT to for a few minutes…..).

The ensemble cast is magnificent.  Matt Damon (as Mitch Emhoff), Laurence Fishburne (as Dr. Ellis Cheever), and Jude Law (as BLOGGER! Alan Krumwiede) in particular.

If you only see one movie this year….this be it.

PG-13 but it is not bad except for Paltrow’s autopsy….yuk.  I think it may be too intense for the little ones….heck, it was almost too intense for me (luckily I have read a lot of Robin Cook’s medical thrillers, so I I could make a few accurate predictions which spared me the surprise factor).  It is not clear, to me, if this is based on Robin Cook’s “Contagion”…the plots seem way different….some on the Internet think it is.
