Monte Wildhorn (Morgan Freeman) is a famous author who has lost his desire to write after losing his wife to cancer 6 years ago.  He travels to Belle Isle to spend the summer.

Armed with enough alcohol to choke an elephant, he spends his days taking care of the house’s owners yellow lab, Ringo (played by Kevin and Tilly), who he promptly renames Spot, and drinking.

His next door neighbors, Charlotte O’Neil (Virginia Madsen) and her three girls Finnegan (Emma Fuhrmann), Willow (Madeline Carroll), and Flora (Nicolette Pierini) take a liking to the curmudgeonly old man despite his best efforts to be a real jerk.

Over the course of the summer, Charlotte and Monte fall into a December / September mutual love “affair”, Monte quits drinking and falls in love with the girls.

Surprisingly, Monte has found a reason to live…… his life has found a spark….and he starts writing again.

“The Magic of Belle Isle” is a spectacular movie.  Morgan Freeman is outstanding as are the rest of the cast.  The chemistry between Freeman and Madsen is palpable.  Wow.

No f-words, lots of drinking, adult themes.  This movie is slow paced but it keeps your attention from the first second to the last.  You turn off the TV wishing for more…and crying.
