Reprising their roles from “Knocked Up” Paul Rudd (as Pete) and Leslie Mann (as Debbie) are angst ridden, married, 40 year old’s (with kids) celebrating their nearly concurrent birthdays.
But….Debbie is resisting the age. She wants a 38th birthday cake (saying she needs two more years to figure things out), and is determined to change how she and her husband eat and live.
Hilariously, her attempts at change do not work.
“This is 40” is definitely not for kids. The f-words fly and the movie opens with Mann and Rudd having viagra turbocharged sex in the shower, then it branches out to a simulated blow job, nice views of Mann’s boobs, a very funny gynecologist examination of Mann, Rudd’s hilarious hemorrhoid issue, and cringe-ing-ly realistic family life with childish / aloof parents, younger kids, and teens.
Rudd and Mann have fantastic chemistry. I had the feeling they were genuinely having fun with each other making this movie. The rest of the cast was great.
A very funny movie that 35+ year old’s will love. “Yup…that is our life!”
