“Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters” Movie Review

(Exciting, Funny, Gory)

Bodies blow up, people are dismembered, heads are squished and blown off: blood and gore (albeit not awfully graphic) flow as do the wisecracks and action. “Hansel and Gretel: Witch Hunters” is definitely NOT for kids. It is R rated for a reason (including the f-words which are used very effectively).
One very clever point was the missing children labels on the milk bottles…very funny.
Local, Modesto native, Jeremy Renner (as Hansel) and Gemma Arterton (as Gretel) are brother and sister witch bounty hunters. Because of a fearful experience as children, they are immune from witch magic and found the best way to kill a bad witch…burn them.
Famke Janssen (as bad grand witch Muriel) is close to perfecting a potion that allows witches to withstand fire. All they need are 12 children (6 boys and 6 girls) and the blood moon to finish the concoction.
Too bad Hansel & Gretel (and new friends) are on the job.
“Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters” may win awards for special effects / costumes, especially, for the Troll, Edward (“I serve witches”). It is just good–gory– fun, with one outstanding nude scene (thank you Joanna Kulig as the Red Haired Witch). 😉
The ending hints that there will be at least one sequel.

Drive Safe! Never Forget.
I don’t know exactly who’s in the nude scene, but I know for a fact that it is Pihla Viitala in the picture.
Right! I am not sure who did the nude scene now…I will have to watch it again for sure…
I am sorry to have to say so, but are you not confusing the actors names ?
It is my understanding that Joanna Kulig is impersonating the red-haired witch, a malevolent character wearing some facial prothetics, while it is Pihla Viitala who plays Mina and therefore has this unforgettable bathing scene you mentionned …
Hmmm, interesting. I will check it when it goes to video. I get lots of searches for “Kulig nude scene” so, if I am wrong, I am not the only one. 🙂 Thanks for commenting.
