4.5 Watertowers ForCarol.com Movie Reviews College Scholarships(Hi Ho Silver Ahoy)

Visiting a travelling museum a little kid stands by as an old Indian exhibit comes to life and tells him the story of  the Lone Ranger.

And quite a story it is.

the lone rangerDistrict Attorney John Reid (Armie Hammer) is on a train out west when outlaw Butch Cavendish (William Fichtner) is rescued by his gang.  When Reid gets into town, he is recruited by his brother, the famous lawman Dan Reid (James Badge Dale) to go out with the posse and find Cavendish.

Unfortunately, the posse has a traitor in it’s midst and they are ambushed.  All are killed except John Reid.  He is chosen by the spirit horse to become somewhat of a super hero…the Lone Ranger, despite the efforts of Tonto (Johnny Depp) to convince the horse (hilariously) to pick “the other brother”.

Tonto is either crazy or gifted we really can’t tell for sure, but, he brings Reid (now the Lone Ranger) back to life, and health, and partners with him to find Cavendish (who is a bit of a supernatural individual himself).

“The Lone Ranger” is a funny action western that is a terrific summer get-away-from-reality movie.  The critics must be on stupid pills since this is a great movie to spend over 2 hours in an air conditioned movie theater in the middle of the hot summer.

Good for the whole family, but, it is a bit violent.  I loved the pacing.  It is funny, poignant, and action packed with dialogue that will make you laugh out loud (as long as you are paying attention).  Kimosabi means “the wrong brother”….how funny!

Depp and Hammer are great together.  Fichtner is scary as hell.

Must see….don’t listen to the critics, just go and have fun.  Enjoy.

Go to IMDb for more information.  We watched this at the air conditioned Tracy, CA CineMark.
