Ryan Gosling (as Lars Lindstrom) is outstanding as a shy young man suffering from a very interesting delusion.

Lacking a real girlfriend, and also lacking the social skills to find one, Lars (with the help of a friend) orders a lifesize, anatomically correct, doll to be delivered to his house. “Bianca” arrives and Lars, most surprisingly, starts to come out of his shell.
Bianca is a missionary with nursing training. Lars wheels her around in a wheelchair and introduces Bianca to his brother, Gus (Paul Schneider) and his wife, Karin (Emily Mortimer) (Emily has always been concerned about Lars and his shyness).
Gus and Karin bring Lars to the local doctor who happens to dabble in psychology (small town doctors need to be flexible). She tells them that Lars is suffering a delusion and that Bianca is probably the best thing for Lars at this point in time. “Go along with him” is her advice.
And they do. In fact the whole town does…welcoming Bianca with open arms.
“Lars and the Real Girl” is an outstandingly interesting and touching movie. Ryan Gosling is superb, Bianca is kinda quiet and stiff. 🙂
