“Transcendence” Movie Review

4-Watertowers ForCarol.com Movie Review(Thought Provoking)

For all the critics who panned this movie…..THINK FOR YOURSELF RATHER THAN FOLLOWING THE CRITICS WHO CAN’T SEE BEYOND THEIR NOSE!

Lemmings….arrrgh.

transcendence“Transcendence” is a quiet, thought-provoking, movie filled with technology and scientific possibilities that, in this reviewers mind, are just around the corner. Someday this will happen…and sooner than you think. Stop being so afraid of technology, like you were with “Jobs” another great technology movie.

Dr. Will Caster (Johnny Depp) has been working in the field of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and is on the verge of a breakthrough that can change the world. Unfortunately, there are dissenters who, right or wrong, disagree with the concept of “transcendence” on mostly religious grounds (makes the transcended person God-like).

One of these dissenters shoots Will with a poison bullet (yeah a spoiler,..) that eventually will kill him (talk about being God-like….).  Will’s wife, Evelyn (played by Rebecca Hall) and friend, Max Waters (played by the amazing Paul Bettany) decide to try to upload Will’s consciousness to computer memory (ala transcendence).  Max is afraid….and has published his concerns previously, but, helps Evelyn.

Will is uploaded and becomes very very powerful (hmmmm, almost God-like) and ravenous for more (computing) power taking control of servers all over the world (via the Internet). He ends up helping people with his new knowledge, but, is he being evil?  Or God-like?  Or just being helpful?

With all the panning of this movie going on, I am pretty sure that it will not do well in the movies. W-h-a-t-e-v-e-r.  Johnny Depp is great, as is the entire cast.

The movie IS SLOW…get over it.

You have to THINK…get over it.

It has TECHNOLOGY and SCIENCE…get over it.

It is NOT brainless shooting and action….get over it.

Go to IMDb for more information.  We watched this at the Tracy, CA CineMark.
