James (Will Ferrell) is living the good life. He is a financial wizard who just got a partnership in his firm, he has a beautiful wife, lives in a mansion, and has a staff to take care of his every need.
That all comes crashing down when Federal Marshals raid a party he is hosting and arrest him for various financial crimes. Knowing he is innocent, and trusting the judicial system, James does not take a plea preferring to go to court. Oooops. James is found guilty, and sentenced to 10 years in San Quentin by a judge who is fed up with Wall Street types getting off easy while others suffer.
He has 30 days to get his affairs in order.
Darnell (Kevin Hart) owns a small time car cleaning service that washes cars in the building that James works. He wants to move to a better house and school district, but his credit sucks. He needs $30,000 to get a new mortgage on a better house.
James assumes that Darnell has been to prison and asks him to help him survive in San Quentin….he needs to “Get Hard”. Darnell has never been to prison, but, decides to help him “Get Hard”……for $30,000.
They spend most of the 30 days getting hard rather than trying to find out who did this to James. Most of the days….not all. Does justice prevail? It is worth the cost of the rental and 2 hours of your life to find out.
“Get Hard” is a better movie than I expected. Kevin Hart and Will Ferrell make a good comedy team. You should know by now how much we love Kevin Hart…he does not disappoint. Lots of play on the words “Get Hard” and even more prison jokes about sucking dick, getting dicked, etc etc. Not for kids.
