4.5-Watertowers ForCarol.com Movie Reviews(Devious Demented Nuns)

When Philomena (Judi Dench) was a teen, she “dropped her panties” and enjoyed having sex with an older man. Unfortunately, she got pregnant and her parents put her in a convent.

philomena blogThe nuns in that convent sold the babies to Americans for 1,000 pounds each. A great money making scheme for the convent as long as nobody snitched on them.

Fifty years later Philomena is still looking for her son.

Hooking up with an recently laid off news reporter (now freelancing), Martin Sixsmith (Steve Coogan), they work together, with renewed vigor, to search for her son. Martin and Philomena uncover the fact that the babies were being sold to Americans and he and Philomena travel to the U.S. to do more searching.

Martin finds him……

“Philomena” is a wonderful “human interest” story that is based on a true story and book by Martin Sixsmith. To see how devious and demented the nuns are due to their religious beliefs is almost beyond comprehension. Not for kids.  Judi Dench was nominated for an Oscar, and Steve Coogan wrote the screenplay.  Wonderfully acted.
