Picking up where Part 1 left off, Katniss (Jennifer Lawrence) is recovering from the attempt on her life by the brain-washed Peeta (Josh Hutcherson).
As District 13 prepares to invade the Capital, they first have to capture District 2. President Alma Coin (Julianne Moore) and Plutarch Heavensbee (Philip Seymour Hoffman) are playing Katniss’s fame as the Mockingjay for everything she is worth as propaganda. They send her, Gale (Liam Hemsworth), and a few others to District 2 to film the overtaking of that District.
Once District 2 is in rebel hands, they march into the heavily defended, and booby-trapped, Capital. Katniss’s team lags the rebels and enters the already captured areas for filming and propaganda. But….Katniss and Gale have other plans: As soon as they can, they will split from the group and go it alone to kill President Snow (Donald Sutherland).
Unfortunately, everything goes haywire and Katniss learns not to trust anyone, except, maybe, Snow (go figure…..).
“The Hunger Games: Mockingjay, Part 2” is mostly powerful and engaging but the ending is somewhat predictable, and toooo long. No f-words and all but the youngest family members should enjoy it. The violence is not graphic, but, it is intense.
Note: As a whole, the movies are much better than the books (TracyReaderDad.com), and, after reading books 1 (good) and 2 (good for the first 200 pages then yuck), I skipped 3 totally. Also, based on the box office results, I suspect the idea of splitting the last book into 2 movies may have run it’s course, but, I have been wrong at least once before. 😉
Go to IMDb for more information. We watched this at the Tracy, CA CineMark theater now that Lori is feeling better once again! In the three months since we have been able to go there, the entire theater has changed to reserved seating and huge comfortable lounge chairs with a max of 50 people in the largest theaters. Wow. Progress at light speed! 🙂
