“Man Up” Movie Review

3.5-Watertowers ForCarol.com movie reviews(F**k the Past)

Nancy (Lake Bell) is staying in a hotel to attend a friend’s party.

man up 2The friend has promised to introduce her to the “perfect guy” at the party, but, Nancy is apprehensive about going. In fact, she decides not to go until her sister calls her and shames her into going. You see, Nancy has recently been dumped, and is not yet prepared to jump back in the dating waters. Can’t blame her. Oh……the “perfect guy”…..is not.

Traveling by train to her parents 40th wedding anniversary, Nancy sits with a young woman who is just to damn perky. Anyway, perky is about to meet a guy and is holding a self-help book so they will recognize each other in the train station.

Since Nancy is such a mental mess, perky leaves the book with her (planning to buy a new one in the station) to help Nancy get on with her life.

Guess what happens?

Yup….Nancy is standing with the book in the train station when the similarly suffering blind date, Jack (Simon Pegg), approaches her thinking she is perky.

Nancy does not deny her mistaken identity and the dysfunctional couple go out, and…….well you have to watch the movie to see what happens.

“Man Up” is a fun romcom. Lake Bell and, Scotty….errr, Simon Pegg make a nice team. Not for kids as the F-words fly, mostly as they make fun of the book by toasting: “Fuck the Past”. And besides, the kids won’t like it anyway
