Philippe Petit (Joseph Gordon-Levitt) is a Paris street performer in the early 1970’s. Part of his act has him juggling while walking a “high-wire” strung between lamp posts, trees, etc.
Biting into a candy given to him by an appreciative audience member, his tooth breaks forcing him to rush to the dentist. Looking at a magazine in the dentist’s office, Philippe sees an article on the nearly finished Twin Towers in New York City. They “talk to him” and his life now has a purpose: To string a wire between the two towers and walk it.
“The Walk” details Philippe’s life up to and including the illegal high-wire walk between the towers. Note:This is a true story…I remember when he did this. Amazing.
“The Walk” is absolutely terrific. The special effects are amazing leaving you with the dizzying feeling you are actually walking the wire hundreds of stories in the air. My palms were sweating. The whole story leading up the walk is fully featured and more interesting than I thought it would be. JGL with a French accent took a bit of getting used to, but, eventually we did. He really is a great actor.
