“The Martian” Movie Review

“I am a Botanist….Mark Watney, Space Pirate”

A storm on Mars threatens to topple over the landing parties spacecraft. If that happens, the entire team of six will be stuck on Mars and will die long before they can be rescued four years hence.

With the storm raging, the team was making their way to the spacecraft when a piece of debris flies into Mark Watney (Matt Damon) driving him further from the spacecraft. The leader of the team, Melissa Lewis (Jessica Chastain) tries to find him, but, has to eventually weigh the loss of the rest of her crew with recovering Mark, who is probably dead anyway. She eventually boards the spacecraft and they leave Mars.

After the storm subsides…..Mark wakes up to find he is alone.

Not one to give up…..Mark has to figure out how to survive, and being a Botanist sure does help. What also helps are the numerous supplies and tools left behind. Mark has shelter, air, and transportation, he just needs to learn how to maximize their effectiveness and to somehow communicate with Earth. Which he does.

“The Martian” is an amazing movie. Great for the whole family as it shows how the human spirit, and sense of humor, survive even under the worst of circumstances.
