“Begin Again” Movie Review

Dan (Mark Ruffalo), co-founder of a famous record label, has not found a bankable talent in a long time.

begin again 1In those tough years, his life has fallen apart as Dan has succumbed to alcohol and drugs and is now estranged from his wife and teenage daughter.

After an argument with his record label partner….he was told to leave and not come back. In a drunken stupor, Dan stumbles into the last bar of the night and hears Gretta (Keira Knightley) singing her newly written song on stage. She bombs (she is a songwriter not a performer), but, we later find out that Dan heard, in his own mind, the entire arrangement of what he thought was a future #1 hit.

Giving Gretta his card he promises to make her a star. Not having any of that since she believes music should be loved for touching your soul, not for popularity…..she gives the card back.

But Dan is persistent and……well to see what happens, rent the movie!

“Begin Again” is terrific. If you love music of any kind (we are country), you will love this movie. A look at the creative side of the industry and a peek at how very difficult it is to stay on top. Lots of f-words so it is definitely not for kids.

Keira Knightley, Mark Ruffalo, James Corden (he of the commute karaoke), and Adam Levine shine!

The chemistry between Knightley and Corden is palpable.
