“Paddington” Movie Review
40 years ago an explorer from a geographic society in London visits the jungles of Peru in search of species he can kill and bring home to stuff for the Natural Museum.
What he finds are intelligent bears that are quite cultured, can speak, wear clothing, and learn how to make marmalade. The explorer tells the bears, Lucy (voiced by Imelda Staunton) and Pastuzo (voice by Dumbledore…..errr, Michael Gambon) they will be welcomed in London should they ever visit.
Fast forward 40 years. A young bear living with his Aunt Lucy and Uncle Pastuzo because his parents have died, is faced with tragedy and decides it is time to heed the explorer’s words and visit London (to find the explorer and maybe a home).
Arriving in London, the young bear finds that it is not as welcoming as he was lead to believe, but, he does meet a nice family, the Browns, who take him in.
But trouble lurks as the explorer’s daughter, Millicent (Nicole Kidman), is happy that the species that eluded her father, and ruined her family’s life, is now within her grasp…..ready to kill and stuff for display in the museum.
“Paddington” is a fun movie with action and intrigue and good family feelings. For those who love the books, this is a great movie. Good for the entire family, even with the dark sub-plot. Another Harry Potter cast reunion. 🙂
