Nick Morton (Tom Cruise) is in the business of stealing ancient artifacts and selling them on the black market. He is a thief.
After spending the night (or 15 seconds, depending who you believe) with Jenny Halsey (Annabelle Wallis), Nick steals a map from her with the location of possibly the most valuable ancient artifact known to man: The burial site, and coffin, of Ahmanet (Sofia Boutella).
Taking Ahmanet’s coffin back on a C-130 transport, the plane crashes and everyone dies……except Jenny (who Nick gave a parachute to) and Nick who Ahmanet has decided to favor with everlasting life because he set her free after thousands of years in her tomb.
The action that follows is fast and furious and scary…..
“The Mummy” is a fun, action packed, adventure typical of a Tom Cruise action movie. Cruise is ageless, and Wallis and Boutella are terrific as is Russell Crowe as Jekyll & Hyde.
Unfortunately, the critics became haters for some reason, and it pretty much bombed in the box office….so there may not be a sequel. That said, “The Mummy” is not the epic, sweeping, adventures of the Brendan Fraser Mummy’s but, they do pay subtle homage to Fraser with the tag line:
