“Logan Lucky” Movie Review
Jimmy Logan (Channing Tatum) just got laid off from his job fixing sink holes underneath Charlotte Motor Speedway in North Carolina.
Heading to the bar where his one-armed brother Clyde (Adam Driver) works, he gets in a fight with arrogant millionaire race car owner, Max (Seth MacFarlane), and an old idea surfaces:
Jimmy and Clyde, with that code word, know what they have to do: Plan a robbery. This time they are going big time. Jimmy knows how the money is moved at the Speedway and knows how to steal the money, but, the brothers need Joe Bang (Daniel Craig) to pull it off.
With a short deadline, and Bang already in jail, the plan comes together and the seemingly dim-witted brothers pull off the heist of the century. Sorry, a bit of a spoiler there….ooops. 😉
“Logan Lucky” is a fun, slow-moving, comedy about taking from the rich and giving to the poor (where have I heard that before?). Tatum and Driver, are fantastic as slow thinking country boys who’s outward appearance does not match up with who they really are. Craig is fantastic and MacFarlane is irritating as hell. The Logan sister, Mellie (Riley Keough), is a great escape driver and real-life grand-daughter of Elvis.
Best of all, at least for us country music lovers: John Denver’s music is front and center, and the audience had no idea who Dwight Yoakam (I have his autograph after meeting him in a restaurant in Livermore, CA) and Leann Rimes are.
A great 2 hour respite from the Orange hell we are living in….
