“The Big Sick” Movie Review

Kumail (Kumail Nanjiani) is a struggling stand-up comedian and part-time Uber driver.
Kumail’s Pakistani culture requires him to marry a woman that was picked out for him by his parents….mostly his mother…..but, Kumail thinks that tradition is stupid and does the best he can to fend off any introductions.
One night during a gig, Kumail is “heckled” by an audience member. After he finishes the show, he walks over to meet the heckler, Emily (Zoe Kazan).
Emily is in grad school studying to be a therapist. The two immediately hit it off, jump in the sack, and several months later are still a hot item.
One major problem from Kumail’s perspective is that if he falls in love with a white woman (which he has done), his family will disown him…..so he keeps Emily a secret from them and his need to “arrange marry” someone a secret from Emily.
But, as always happens, the secrets are revealed and they argue and break up. A short time later, Emily gets very sick. She is put in a medical coma while the Doctors try to find out what is causing her sickness, and……..well, you will just have to watch the movie. 🙂
“The Big Sick” is a fantastic, real-life, movie about love.
“Love is not easy, that’s why they call it love” (from Emily’s father, Terry (Ray Romano)).
