Eva’s (Shirley MacLaine) husband just died.
Expecting to sell her house she, nonetheless, awaits the $50,000 life insurance check. The check arrives, and even though the letter states the check is for $50,000, the check itself is made out for $5,000,000. WTF.
Not really knowing what to do, Eva asks her best friend, Maddie (Jessica Lange), what she would do if she came into that much money. Maddie says she would go to a tropical island and drink on the beach.
The two old women (old?….one is only 2 years older than me! Arrrghh) pack their stuff and head down to the Canary Islands (off the coast of Africa but belonging to Spain).
There they have a blast spending a ton of money, but, also attract unsavory people out to steal their money and an aging insurance company investigator trying to get the insurance companies money back.
“Wild Oats” is an ok movie, but, why it was made (except for an excuse to head to a tropical island for vacation) is beyond me. Certainly not to make money, as it is “movie lite” starring a couple of aging stars (ouch….) who could do better.
But then again, a fully paid for vacation is a good thing. 🙂
