Kenny Wells (Matthew McConaughey) owns a mining company that, in the late 80’s, has fallen on hard times.
With some great geologic surveys of some potential mineral sites, Kenny cannot get funding for drilling to save his life. One night, during a drunken stupor, Kenny has a dream of a gold mine in Indonesia.
Following up on that dream, Kenny pawns a few gold watches and travels to Indonesia to convince an old, successful prospector, acquaintance, Michael Acosta (Edgar Ramirez), to help him find gold.
Suffering terrible weather, a worker walkout, and malaria……Kenny and Mike strike it rich! They find a gold deposit worth, potentially, $30 Billion.
Wow!

Suddenly, everyone who turned Kenny down for funding is jumping on the bandwagon to get a piece of this golden pie. Kenny’s company moves back into a high rise office space, their stock rises to incredible heights, and all is golden as more and more the mine looks like the biggest gold deposit ever found.
But, like the saying goes……if it seems too good to be true…….
To find out what happens, you will have to watch the movie. 🙂
“Gold” is a terrific adventure / thriller. McConaughey and Ramirez are fantastic and the inside look at modern day prospecting is fascinating. Trivia: McConaughey put on 45 pounds for this role, yikes! And he still looks good…..hate him! haha
