Brian Bloom (Anton Yelchin) is an aspiring writer living in Manhattan with a wall full of rejection letters from various magazines. As of yet, he is an unpublished author.
Brian’s life is writing (how he can afford a Manhattan apartment is not brought up). He writes, he eats, he breathes. There is no room in his life for anyone else.
One day, Brian was out for a walk, around lunch time, when he spots a woman smoking a cigarette across the street. Bells and whistles go off in his head and heart, and he crosses the street to meet her. Arielle (Berenice Marlohe) is instantly attracted to Brian as well, and they agree to meet the same time next Friday.
A few meetings at lunch lead to Arielle and Brian meeting any day between 5 and 7 pm. Why that time? Well, since Arielle is married with two children, this is the time she and her husband have set aside as “affair” time.
Brian has a bit of an issue with this “affair”, but, Arielle is a wonderful woman who he falls deeply in love with, and her kids, husband, and his mistress, Jane (Olivia Thirlby), all accept Brian into the “family”. Happy times!
But, life is predicated on impermanence and……to see what happens you will have to watch the movie. 🙂
“5 to 7” is a quirky, heartfelt, movie about love and marriage, which sometimes are separate. We miss Anton, but, he and Berenice are spectacular together. The energy of their love for each other is palpable.
