“Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle” Movie Review

In high school, nerdy Spencer (Alex Wolf, Dwayne Johnson) got caught helping football star, Fridge (Ser’Darius Blain, Kevin Hart) with his homework……

Detention!

Self-absorbed Bethany (Madison Iseman, Jack Black) gets caught in class videoconferencing (you’re welcome) with her friend.  Refusing to put away her phone until she is done with the call…..

Detention!

Scholar Martha (Morgan Turner, Karen Gillan) lets the P.E. teacher know what she thinks about being a lowly P.E. teacher and that there is more to learn in school than P.E…….

Detention!

In detention, the 4 kids are tasked with cleaning up a storage area.  One of them finds an old video game, the kind with a cartridge, and they plug it into an old TV to play it: Jumanji.

They select their game characters and as they are playing, they get sucked into the game (just like Alex (Nick Jonas) did 20 years earlier) as the characters they chose.

What follows is a fun, exciting, romp though the jungles of Jumanji where the 5 players (now including Alex) must find a way to return a stolen jewel to the stone panther or lose the game and be forever stuck in Jumanji.  With three lives each, they must learn to trust each others capabilities in order to win the game and go back home.

Do they win Jumanji?  To find out you will have to watch the movie.

We loved “Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle” even though I was not super excited about it going in.  It is much better than I thought it would be, and, sorry Robin, I also think it is better than the first one.

The cast is fantastic with all of them playing their high school characters to perfection. But, I have to give kudos to Jack Black for his portrayal of self-absorbed, snapchatting, selfie taking, mean girl, Bethany.  He deserves an Oscar! 🙂

Go to IMDb for more information.  We watched this at the Tracy, CA CineMark Theater.
