“How to Be a Latin Lover” Movie Review
After the untimely death of their hard-working father, Sara and her older brother, Maximo, decide they want to be an architect and lover to an older very rich woman, respectively.
35 years later, Maximo (Eugenio Derbez) is still 80 year old Peggy’s (Renee Taylor) lover reaping the benefits of the ultra rich lifestyle. He has not worked a day in his life, rides his hoverboard instead of walking, and buys and drives the most expensive fancy cars.
Until one day…..Maximo is dumped for a younger man.
With no place to go, Maximo swallows his ill-placed pride and asks Sara (Salma Hayek) (they have not talked in years) if he can move in with her and her son, Hugo (Raphael Alejandro). Sara agrees but only for one night.
Many months later, Maximo is still living with Sara and Hugo, and they are becoming a family once again.
But Maximo is still on the prowl for a very rich older woman he can latch onto. Celeste (Raquel Welch) seems like the perfect candidate, but, how does he get through her defenses? Can he?
“How to Be a Latin Lover” is a fun, sometimes laugh out loud hilarious (a poor guy in a wheelchair, we felt so sorry for him), sometimes touching, and sometimes just a bit sad, movie. Much better than the critics think, especially if you love Salma Hayek and Eugenio Derbez, who, by the way is a fantastic comic talent. Lots of famous co-stars and cameos.
