“Beatriz at Dinner” Movie Review and Trailer
Beatriz (Salma Hayak) is a healer working at a cancer center where she uses alternative medicine, massage, and other techniques to ease her patient’s pain and suffering.
Beatriz is also an animal lover and believer that the Earth is dying from neglect and lack of understanding. She is troubled by what is happening in the world, and, to make matters worse, her neighbor just murdered her beloved goat.
One day, while working at a rich client’s house, Beatriz’s car broke down. Kathy (Connie Britton), who considers Beatriz part of the family since she helped nurse Kathy’s cancer-ridden daughter back to health, invites her to stay for dinner while they wait for the mechanic.
As the guests arrive we find out that they are shallow money-making bigots interested in nothing else but themselves. If people, or animals, or the Earth, get hurt while they build their empire….to bad. It’s all about me. It’s all about money….for me. If you are less fortunate….fuck you. A Very dotard-ish attitude sadly appropriate to the time we are now living in.
Beatriz is not happy, and she let’s the idiots know.
“Beatriz at Dinner” is claimed to be a dark comedy. I agree with dark….but it is certainly not a comedy, especially given the current state of the world, where this attitude is prominent all the way to the top. Salma Hayak, sans makeup and a smile, is perfect and amazing.
Drive Safe! Never Forget.
