Mildred (Frances McDormand) is tired of waiting for the local police to solve the rape and murder of her daughter 7 months prior.
She takes $5,000 of her hard earned money and buys advertising space on three billboards outside of Ebbing, Missouri. The billboards go viral and the whole town of Ebbing, most especially the police department, are appalled.
Police Chief Willoughby (Woody Harrelson) is especially upset since he really did try his best, but, it’s his name on the billboards. He tells Mildred his story including the fact that he has cancer and is dying.
Mildred says that is why the billboards went up now instead of later……since they will have little effect when he is dead.
Police Officer Dixon (Sam Rockwell) is also upset, but, he chooses to lash out at anyone involved with the billboards….with violence. It makes you wonder: Did he kill Mildred’s daughter? Hmmmm, he is violent and hotheaded enough for sure.
To see what happens, you will have to watch the movie. “Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri” is terrific, terrifying, brutal, and scary. Frances McDormand and Sam Rockwell both won Oscars. And they deserved them, as did Harrelson. Wow……
