“The Man Who Invented Christmas” Movie Review

Charles Dickens (Dan Stevens) has been having a hard time writing after the success of “Oliver Twist”. He is “blocked”.

Try as he might, life, family, and monetary stress are getting to him and he can’t seem to imagine the characters for this new Christmas book he is trying to write. (A Christmas Carol)

One day in his office, he struggles to come up with a name for his main character, telling his new house maid that once he finds the right name…..the character will appear before him.

Crazy as a loon…..or maybe not.

Booge, Drooge, Ooooooooge, Snooooge………SCROOGE !!!!

And there appears….Scrooge (Christopher Plummer)…ready to converse with Dickens.

The new book is underway!

Soon, all the characters come to life and follow Dickens around giving advice on the new book as Dickens shuts out all distractions. Within 6 weeks he finishes what is probably his most famous work, and the one that invents Christmas as the holiday we all know and love.

“The Man Who Invented Christmas” is a new way to tell the age old Christmas Carol story: From Dickens’s own perspective.

Very cool.
