Max Medici (Danny DeVito) is owner and emcee of the Medici circus.
1919 was a bad year for the circus as they lost several key acts to the flu and the war, but, Max is not to be deterred as the circus embarks on another tour.
This year Max spent money on a pregnant elephant in hopes of drumming up business when the baby is born.
The baby is born! But……..
Milly (Nico Parker) and Joe (Finley Hobbins) Farrier are alone now that their mother died from the flu. They are waiting for their father, Holt (Colin Farrell) to get back from the war so they can be a family again. Holt returns but without an arm is designated the elephant caretaker.
The baby elephant is born while the circus is in Joplin, MO and everyone is excited, until they see the baby. Yikes! What huge ears you have….

Instantly rejected by the adults, the baby is befriended by Milly and Joe and handled with respect by Holt.
Then guess what happens? Yup, the baby elephant flies and the world changes for the circus and the Farrier’s.
“Dumbo” is a cute movie definitely for kids but also a nice lesson in acceptance of differences for the adults who are in some kind of maga stupidity in 2019. The human kids take the place of the mouse (although he is there), and Milly is a budding scientist who researches Dumbo’s flight characteristics (girls kick ass!) , and 2019 sensibilities replace 1941 sensibilities where needed.

I was hoping for more “Tim Burton”, but, alas that did not happen. Overall, “Dumbo” is a fine, fun, movie for the entire family. It does get emotional at times, so bring tissue.
