Prince Akeem (Eddie Murphy) of Zamunda is celebrating his 21st birthday.
The Prince has been spoiled his entire life.
He walks on rose petals, he does not wipe himself in the bathroom, he is bathed by beautiful-naked-women, and he does not even tie his own shoes as his father, the King (James Earl Jones), says….tying your own shoes is “overrated”.
He is going to meet his future wife today, a woman who was picked by the King: She will be the perfect Queen, and will do anything Prince Akeem wishes.
Problem is…..Prince Akeem wants a strong woman with her own will to be Queen, and he also wants to experience life as a normal person and maybe, even, get a job.
Looking at the map of America with his servant Semmi (Arsenio Hall) they decide to go to Queens, New York in hopes of finding Akeem’s queen.
Then he meets Lisa McDowell (Shari Headley) of the famous McDowell hamburger establishment, and……

“Coming to America” is a classic from 1988. Eddie Murphy and Arsenio Hall kill it as multiple characters in this hilarious coming of age Hallmark romcom prototype (including the last 15 minutes of confusion ending happily ever after). Must see, but, be aware that this is NOT for kids as nudity starts off the movie, and the F-words fly throughout.
