“The Starling” Movie Review

Lily and Jack Maynard (Melissa McCarthy and Chris O’Dowd) have been happily married and are overjoyed at the birth of their daughter, Katie.

Unfortunately, SIDS (sudden infant death syndrome) took their infant daughter, prompting Jack to attempt suicide (he blames himself for oversleeping).

Jack is now in a mental health facility and Lily is all fucked up.

One year later…..

Lily is trying to recover and finally decides to rid her house of Katie’s stuff and seek some help….Jack is still struggling in the hospital.

As Lily works on the lawn and fires up her garden once again….she is attacked by a nasty ass Starling!

Dr. Larry Fine

Dealing with Jack, the Starling, work and doing her best to recover…..she is given the card of a “therapist” turned veterinarian, Dr. Larry Fine (Kevin Kline).

The unlikely therapist, a bird, and time….all help Lily work her way thru the stages of grief, and interestingly, help Jack as well.

To see what happens, you can watch this movie on Netflix.

“The Starling” is a depressing movie about infant death and the mental toll it takes on the parents. It is a look at the stages of grief and how people deal with grief in their own way. And yes….we know a little about the stages of grief. The cast is terrific, but, Chris O’Dowd is spectacular.
