Before you watch this movie, it is good to know that it is based on William Shakespeare’s “Taming of the Shrew” and, as such, it has numerous references to Shakespeare during the movie; some overt…some subtle. Had I realized that, I would have read “Taming of the Shrew” before watching this movie…..NOT! 😉
Cameron James (Joseph Gordon-Levitt) is new to this high school and has been paired with Michael Eckman (David Krumholtz) to tour the school.
During the tour, Michael gives Cameron the low down on all the cliques when Cameron sees……Bianca Stratford (Larisa Oleynik)…..and falls madly in love!
Only one problem: Bianca is not allowed to date unless her curmudgeonly older sister, Kat (Julia Stiles) dates….and Bianca (and Kat) both know that is never going to happen.
Unless…..a plan hatched by Michael and Cameron works, and that is to get wild guy (who is not afraid of anyone), Patrick (Heath Ledger), to date Kat (who is very scary!
Then Cameron can date Bianca, and wll will be right with the world.
Will the plan work?
To find out you will have to watch the movie on Disney+ (or read “Taming the Shrew”) which ever is easier. 😉
“10 Things I Hate About You” is probably considered, 22 years after it was made, a “classic” movie. Look at the people in it and where they are now (except, of course, for the late great Heath Ledger, but look at what he accomplished in his short life….amazing). Reading the trivia on IMDb, they all knew they were working on a movie that was extrodinary.
A quick note…..Disney+ has added Touchstone pictures to it site. That was the “adult” movie arm of Disney way back when, and in fact, “10 Things” is pretty crude as it refers to dick sizes, sex, smoking, drinking, etc. Things normally not associated with Disney+…..is there a shift in the wind at Disney+? We will see.
