Movie Review: “Elemental”

After a windstorm destroyed everything they had made together a family left their home and country to start fresh in Elemental City.

Not understanding the language and with virtually nothing in their pockets this family started a store, had a baby girl, and succeeded in the Firetown section of Elemental City. (Exchange the words, Firetown and Elemental City with Harlem and New York…..and you have my parents story coming from Finland).

Ember (Leah Lewis) always knew she was destined to take over the family business…..the only thing stopping her father from declaring the store hers is her fiery temper! And the fact that her passion lies in making beautiful glass art, not dealing with customers.

One day, during a red dot sale, Ember totally lost it and broke all the pipes in the basement, allowing a city worker, Wade (Mamoudou Athie), who was checking the pipes to find a leak……to flow into the family business.

As we all know: Fire and Water do not mix and……..

“Elemental” is a simple, heartwarming, sweet, story about: An immigrant family making it in a new world, a lesson that you need to follow YOUR passion, and how two widely different people….can fall in love.

We loved it!
