Movie Review: “The Little Mermaid”

Mermaid Ariel (Halle Bailey) is fascinated with the “above world” of humans.

Ariel collects human artifacts that have made their way into the sea and desperately wants to go on land to learn more about that world.

A great example of what Ariel has found, and learned what it is from her friend Scuttle (Awkwafina), is the dinglehopper that is used to fix the human’s hair.

Sooooo, as you can see, any first hand knowledge Ariel can get about humans will be very helpful. 😉

One night a ship crashed in a storm and Ariel saved a man, Prince Eric (Jonah Hauer-King), resting him on the beach so he could recover and be found.

Eric woke up briefly to see Ariel and to hear her sing.

He wants to find the woman who saved him and orders the kingdom to look for her.

Seeing her opening to visit the above world, Ariel made a deal with Ursula (Melissa McCarthy) to become human for 3 days…but without her voice!

If she gets true loves kiss within that 3 days, she will stay human….if not….she will be Ursula’s slave.

But…..you already know the story, soooooo…..

“The Little Mermaid” is an absolutely fantastic live action re-imagining of the Disney classic animated movie! The music is fantastic and Halle Bailey is tremendous. In fact……the movie is brilliant in every way.

Passing the torch (or dinglehopper) to the next generation……is Jodi Benson, the original Ariel, in a very short cameo in the marketplace. VERY cool! 🙂
