“Uglies” Movie Review

In the dystopian world they live in, on their 16th birthday they undergo an operation that eliminates all their physical flaws and makes them pretty.

Tally Youngblood (Joey King) wants to be pretty and, more than anything, she wants gold eyes to match her future pretty hair.

Her best friend in the world, Peris (Chase Stokes), just became pretty and did not meet Tally when (time and place) they agreed to meet.

Worried, Tally enters the land of Pretty to find Peris, and what she finds disturbs her…..Peris barely knows her and seems different, vastly different.

Back home, Shay (Brianne Tju), tells Tally of the Smoke people, led by David (Keith Powers), living on the land eschewing the need to be pretty.

She learns from the Smoke that the operations to make you pretty also take away your sense of individuality, your ability to remember, and most of all, your….

“Uglies” is an excellent movie about life, being pretty, control, and choice. Based on a 4 book series by Scott Westerfield, “Uglies” is book #1 (I assume movies on books 2 thru 4 will also be coming?)…here is a link to the book.

We LOVED it!

But, we have not read the books (Kristen did when she was younger).

Those who have read the books…seem to dislike the movie.
