Cory Lambert (Jeremy Renner) is a Game Warden in the wilds of Wyoming (minus the red shirt). He says his job is to “hunt predators”.

One day while hunting a mountain lion responsible for killing a rancher’s cattle, Cory finds footprints in the snow. Following those footprints, he finds a dead body. He knows Natalie (Kelsey Asbille) and suspects she has been murdered. He calls the police and FBI.
The FBI agent that shows up, Jane Banner (Elizabeth Olsen), sees the body and determines Natalie’s death to be a homicide.
What follows is the pairing of the “predator hunter”, Cory, (who had lost his daughter, Natalie’s best friend, three years before) and an FBI agent from Ft. Lauderdale, as they follow the clues to solve the mystery in the snow and freezing temperatures of Wyoming.
More deaths….a lot more….ensue as Cory and Jane narrow the list of suspects and get closer to knowing the truth.
“Wind River” is a BRUTAL but excellent movie with a stupendous cast, unbelievable scenery, and a very tense serial plot leading to a brutal ending.
I was drained by the time the movie ended.
This movie is NOT for kids as there are multiple bloody shooting deaths, half eaten bodies (eaten by coyotes, wolves, raptors), drug abuse, and human suffering.
If you want to read (read? what’s that? 😉 about a fictional Game Warden based in Wyoming, with very similar mysteries to solve, read C.J. Box’s terrific Joe Pickett series. One goof to add for the movie: Wyoming Game Wardens have red shirts.
Go to IMDb for more information. We watched this at the Tracy, CA Cinemark theater.
