“Paddington 2” Movie Review

The last movie ended with Paddington (Ben Whishaw) happily living in the Brown’s attic after some harrowing moments evading a taxidermist.

In “Paddington 2”, four years have passed and everyone in the Brown family is moving forward with their lives.

Mary (Sally Hawkins) is training to swim the English Channel.  Henry (Hugh Bonneville) was passed over for a promotion and is now in the midst of a middle age crises. Judy (Madeleine Harris) was dumped by her boyfriend and has started a newspaper.  Jonathan (Samuel Joslin) has forgone his inner nerd and is now cool.  Mrs. Bird (Julie Walters) has vanquished all the death eaters.

And Paddington is working as a window washing independent contractor so he can make enough money to buy Aunt Lucy (Imelda Staunton) a 100th birthday present: A very valuable popup book of London.

In pursuit of a possible job, Paddington tells washed up actor, Phoenix Buchanan (Hugh Grant), about the popup book.  Phoenix promptly steals it (where his relative many many years ago had failed) implicating Paddington in the process……who is then found guilty, and goes to jail. Yikes!

To see what happens, you will have to see the movie.

“Paddington 2” is a fun kids movie with action, intrigue, and laughs.  Equal to, or maybe slightly better, than the first movie.  With the entire cast returning, it felt like “home”.  🙂  We re-watched “Paddington” the night before going to see Paddington 2….that was very helpful.

The little girl sitting next to us commented at the end: “Mommy, I’m gonna cry”.  So bring tissues.  🙂
