Movie Review: “Status Update”

Kyle Moore (Ross Lynch) is being bullied in his new high school in Connecticut. His mother (Wendi McLendon-Covey), and sister (Brec Bassinger) moved to CT from California, and apparently, being a surfer dude, is not cool.

After numerous run-ins with the arrogant school hockey star and after the latest fight in the hallway……Kyle’s cell phone broke. Arrrghhh…

At the mall, Kyle finds a phone kiosk where he picked up a new phone with a magical app pre-installed. He was told that he can change his life by updating his status on this app, because, whatever he writes as his status, will come true.

Kyle takes full advantage of the app’s magical powers…..becoming a singing sensation (to meet Dani (Olivia Holt)), a hockey star (to impress Dani), and ultimately, an arrogant prick (Dani hates him now!) just like the people who have bullied him.

Dani, Kyle

Like Rumpelstiltskin says “Magic always comes with a price”.

To see what happens, you can watch this movie on Amazon Prime.

“Status Update” is a fun, magical, YA movie about growing up….in more ways than one.
