Movie Review: “Pinocchio”

Wandering the streets of a small village, Jiminy Cricket (Joseph Gordon-Levitt), sees a light on in a shop. He finds a hole to crawl into and watches as the owner of the shop puts the finishing touches on his latest creation.

Geppetto (Tom Hanks) makes gadgets for sale and some that will never be sold, like the cuckoo clocks that he made for his late wife.

Having, also lost his son, Geppetto has just finished a puppet in his honor…..he names that puppet….Pinocchio.

That night, Geppetto spots a star and makes a wish upon that star.

Visted later that night by the Blue Fairy (Cynthia Erivo), Pinocchio comes alive as a wooden puppet with the hope that, if he leads a good life, he will become a real boy.

Then…..

Oh, you know the rest, but you can watch this version on Disney+. 🙂

“Pinocchio” has never been my favorite movie but this is a nice live action version of it. It’s still not my favorite, but, I like the more modern language and the homage to Disney characters in the cuckoo clocks…..in particular, Woody! Tom Hanks and JG-L shine, and Cynthia Erivo hits notes I never thought possible. Wow!
