Movie Review: “Top Gun: Maverick”

An unfriendly country is building a facility that is going to be used to build weapons that will be used against the United States.

That facility needs to be destroyed…..and the only way is by air, with an older plane that has the charateristics they need for this operation: The F-18.

Admiral Tom “Iceman” Kazansky (Val Kilmer) wants Capt. Pete “Maverick” Mitchell (Tom Cruise) to train the best fliers the Navy has to offer to attack this heavily defended (by nature and weapons) fortification before it can be finished.

Others are not happy to have Maverick (a 60 year old fighter pilot with a cocky attitude) onboard.

But, Iceman outranks everyone, soooooo……time for the training to start since they only have 3 weeks to pick the elite six pilots / navigators to fly the mission.

Among the elite Navy pilots in the training class is Lt. Bradley “Rooster” Bradshaw (Miles Teller) who hates Maverick since he blames him for the death of his father, “Goose” many years ago. (Pretty funny since the original Top Gun was released in 1986 and Teller was born in 1987……:-).

Maverick, Hangman (Glen Powell), Rooster, Phoenix (Monica Barbaro)

The training begins and…….

Oh, to see what happens….you can stream this movie on your fav streamer. We watched it on Amazon Prime.

“Top Gun: Maverick” is a STUPENDOUS movie! Superb action, great casting, and Tom Cruise who is now 60…..kicking ass with no fat at all…slight jealousy. 😉

E2 Hawkeye made by Northrop / Grumman (my plane!)

And….who knew…..that my real life intertwined with the fictional characters in this movie: U.S. Navy, Aviation / Avionics, NAS North Island for training, assigned to an Airborne Early Warning Squadron (VAW-124, working on the avionics in the best aircraft ever made: the E2C Hawkeye, the pic shows a newer version) on an aircraft carrier (the USS America, which is now a reef) where I was a green shirt (I still have one!) on the deck of that carrier. They even had to land a couple of planes with the net…..I watched all the flight deck action from the cockpit of the E2….fond memories.
