“The DUFF” Movie Review

3.5-Watertowers ForCarol.com movie reviews(Bullying & Owning Who You Are)

Bianca (Mae Whitman) has been hanging with her best friends, Casey (Bianca A. Santos) and Jessica (Skyler Samuels), for a long time.

the duffOne day, her next door neighbor, Wesley (Robbie Amell), innocently told Bianca that of her friend group, she is the DUFF (Designated Ugly Fat Friend). She is the one guys go to to find out more about beautiful Jessica and Casey…..because DUFF’s are approachable and not threatening.

Realizing she is indeed a DUFF, Bianca tries to change.  She dumps her best friends and recruits Wesley to help her change. Ultimately, she learns that true friends are hard to find, and that she is who she is and she needs to learn how to “own it”.

“The DUFF” starts out looking like a “Mean Girls” re-done, but, quickly modernizes the premise with cyber-bullying, along with the normal “Mean Girl” high school bullying, and shows how Bianca deals with bullying and rises above it.  Some F-words and S-words. Teens would like it, but it is not for little kids.
