(Corporate Deception)

Matt Damon (as company superstar, Steve Butler) and Frances McDormand (as Sue Thomason, “This is just a job”) are the lead land acquisition team for a global natural gas company. Their job is to buy the rights to land rich with natural gas, one small poor town, one poor land owner, at a time.
Promoted to VP of Land Management, Damon finds resistance to the companies monetary offers in their most recent small town. Hal Holbrook (as MIT graduate and science teacher Frank Yates) is concerned about the safety of the methods used to extract the natural gas (fracking). There have been some incidents where the land has become polluted to the point of being destroyed.
Coming to town to help Holbrook discuss his concerns is environmentalist John Krasinski (as Dustin Noble). Undeterred by bribes from McDormand to stop, Krasinski moves forward letting the town know that the process can be very dangerous.
But all is not what it appears to be.
“Promised Land” is a very good, interesting, movie with beautiful scenery. F-words fly so it is not for kids, teens might get bored, but adults will like it. The cast is great.
Interestingly, the entire audience stayed all the way through the credits. I think they wanted to see where it was filmed. But it could be they were recovering from the deception they just witnessed, like we were.
Go to IMDb for more information. We watched this movie at the Tracy, CA CineMark where our poster is STILL UP.
