“The Bookshop” Movie Review




Florence Green (Emily Mortimer) has finally decided to follow her passion and open a bookstore. She has purchased an old abandoned house in town and fixes it up ready to receive the books she has on order. Florence hires Christine (Honor Kneafsey) to help her in the store, which, after opening, quickly becomes a popular hangout.

Violet Gamart (Patricia Clarkson) is a vile old woman who suddenly has a renewed interest in the old house that she ignored, and let fall into disrepair, for the past seven years. Violet has vowed to do everything in her power to force Florence out of that house.

Edmund Brundish (Bill Nighy) is a recluse who loves books and ends up being Florence’s first, and best, customer. He finds that he loves Ray Bradbury’s books.

The small town, under Violet’s control, makes life really difficult for Florence (for absolutely no reason), and……

To find out what happens, you will have to see the movie.

“The Bookshop” is a slow, methodical, linear progression from beginning to shocking end. Just like a book. 🙂 The cast is fantastic.
