Kylie Van Os Graduates from West Point

Family At Graduation

On May 23, 2026, I graduated from the United States Military Academy at West Point, and I have spent the past 5 months trying to find the words to describe what that means to me. Unlike most other colleges, where graduates pursue
different careers, West Point graduates all commission as Second Lieutenants in the United States Army on graduation day, beginning our careers with a shared purpose of leading and serving others.

West Point was not an ordinary college experience. It pushed me academically, physically, militarily, and personally. While there were days I wished I could experience a more traditional college life, I would not trade the past four years for anything.

West Point challenged me in ways I never expected, but it also provided me with opportunities beyond what I could have imagined. Most importantly, it surrounded me with people who pushed me to be better and supported me each and every day.

Throughout my four years at West Point, I was able to take advantage of numerous incredible opportunities.

I earned my Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology and served in numerous leadership positions that allowed me to learn and develop my leadership style and philosophy.

These experiences taught me the importance of leading by example, building relationships, and taking care of those around me. I know I have plenty more to learn as I progress through the Army, yet I am grateful for the foundation West Point has given me.

Since graduating, I have moved to Fort Leonard Wood, MO, where I am currently attending the Engineer Basic Officer Leadership Course (EBOLC). Upon completing this course in January, I will move to Schofield Barracks, HI, where I will serve with the 130th Engineer Brigade. I am excited for this next chapter and the opportunity to lead Soldiers, continue learning, and put into practice the lessons I gained at West Point.

Tracy High

Reflecting on the past four years since graduating from Tracy High, I am grateful for everyone who has supported me along the way. This is certainly not a path I could have done alone. My family, friends, mentors, teachers, and coaches have all played major roles in helping me get to where I am today. I am thankful for the ForCarol organization in selecting me as a scholarship recipient in 2022. It has been an honor to be supported by an organization that continues to keep Carol’s memory alive while supporting students within our community.

When I first chose to attend West Point, I had no idea what the next four years would hold. I left there with much more than a college degree and a commission.

I gained lifelong friendships, memories, and a greater sense of purpose. I am excited for what lies ahead.
