Michelle Cho, our 2017 recipient of the Carol Phan Memorial College Scholarship, has graduated from Brandeis University with a B.S. in Biochemistry and Biology. Below, Michelle writes about her experiences at college and her plans for the future.

Four years later, here we are! It seems like such a cliche that time flies, but it really does! Just as high school comes to an end so much sooner than you anticipate, so does college.
I think that in many ways the two are very similar. They are both clearly defined periods in your life in which you grow and learn as a person. You gain more experience and freedom than in previous parts of your life. But I think at least thus far, college has definitely been the most self-defining era for myself.
The experiences you have in college will redefine what you want for yourself, how you view yourself, who you surround yourself with – and I mean that all in the best way! I am so thankful for all the experiences, good and bad, that I have had in my undergraduate years. I learned so much, and now I have a much better understanding of the world and myself. I made friends that I know I will have for the rest of my life and I discovered new passions that have shifted my personal ambitions. All of this was possible because college will show you new and exciting things, but it will also push you to be better. Now, throw in the fact that we all endured a global pandemic! Having to finish my last year and a half of schooling in this situation was definitely a new challenge, but I learned a lot from it – probably things I would never have even considered otherwise.
Now, after graduating from Brandeis with a B.S. in Biochemistry and Biology, I have accepted a position at Massachusetts General Hospital during an interim period while applying to medical school.
I know I could not have gotten to this point without all the past experiences I have had. Looking forward to what’s to come!
